These conical Poplar trees are iconic to the Eastern Cape and Free State and they have been the subject of many photographs and paintings over the years. There are probably hundreds of thousands of them throughout the country, but finding one in the ideal photogenic farmland scene isn't that easy. Finding a lone one is even harder as they're usually in lanes or small plantations. This is the best one that I've found. With the fence and the gate complementing the composition so beautifully, it is truly a photogenic gem.
